There are many factors that impact pricing. City areas are likely to be cheaper than regional areas because of the cost of transport. Locally grown/manufactured products should more often than not be cheaper than imported products. Unfortunately, this is not always the case as a lot of overseas products are heavily subsidised and can be imported into Australia relatively cheaply.

One important point to remember when purchasing fresh fruit and vegetables in particular is that the standards imposed on Australian growers are far more onerous than those imposed in a lot of overseas countries and accordingly the quality of Australian fruit and vegetables is far superior to that of imported fruit and vegetables.
